weed barrier

Many people have asked about the dry creek bed and how we went about creating it.  Well, first we mapped the course of the bed.  This actually was done when it was raining like mad outside.  Our intent was to redirect some of the water away from the house and keep the lawn more dry (it was a sponge in the spring).  Then we rototilled the grass off, keeping the creek bed only 2 inches deep, laid a weed barrier fabric, and covered it with 2 inch and 3 inch stones for the border.  We added smaller stones in the bed itself.

This fabric is top notch!  I know you can get others for less at some home improvement centers, but this one has the highest rating for being the best barrier against grass and weeds growing up through it.  Totally a great advantage because when you are putting this much work into something, you sure as heck don't want to spend days weeding!

My Cats love their window perches

Got some new window perchesLarge Padded Cat Window Perch : Color SPECKLED SAND : Size LARGE PERCH
for the cats as they are always trying to look out the window so I got several and they love them!  Totally recommend them to any cat lover!  I read about many of them but I have to say, these are heavy duty and will not disappoint.  I attached them to the wall but you don't have to.  You can easily just hook them over the existing window and move it anytime you want.  I just wanted a permanent place for them.  Delivery was fast!  And I had them up in no time.  Someone is always laying on one of them so if you have a cat that loves watching the outdoors.  this is the best perch for your cat friend.

Dry Creek Bed is coming along

Well this is day 7 of the dry creek bed project. ..... Thank goodness we are done with it and now have a bunch of stones to use up in other places. I have to tell you, this is one of the longest, hardest projects for 2 people to do. The dry creek bed is 255 feet long and 2 and a half feet wide. I rototillered the path - which basically took off the grass down to dirt level. Put in the weed mat, Fuzzy side down, stapled it down with 4 inch metal staples, then made a border with larger stones and filled in the middle with smaller stones. Oh, my aching back..... Lets see if I can post some pictures.
